* Landfill Communities Fund
The Wales Environment Trust Ltd (The Trust) was granted status as an Environmental Body in 1997 by ENTRUST, the regulator of the Landfill Community Fund.
The Trust was the first independent environmental body to be registered in Wales and up to March 2008 a total of 126 projects had been registered with Entrust.
Historically The Trust's support focused upon innovative research and education schemes linked to waste recycling. Some flagship projects included the inaugural Kerbside Recycling scheme in Caerphilly CBC; A pilot composting scheme for green waste in Carmarthenshire; Testing the feasibility of Railway sleepers manufactured from Recycled Plastic; Schools Recycling scheme in Caerphilly CBC.
The UK government phased out the waste related (CAT C) schemes in April 2003 and since then The Trust have focused upon projects that benefit local communities and these include church restoration, community path schemes, sports field development and village hall refurbishment amongst many others.
Links to final Final Project reports are available for downloading. A photo gallery showing examples of some community projects can also be accessed.
