ReMaDe Network UK

The Wales Environment Trust is a member of the ReMaDe Network UK. The Remade Network UK connects organisations and programmes working to find uses for waste as a resource and to minimise its impact on the environment by identifying alternatives to landfill.

Funding Sources

Current funding opportunities for recycling ventures in Wales include:

The National Lotteries New Opportunities Fund – Transforming Waste Programme

This fund has £3.25 million to be invested within Wales, supporting recycling ventures that support local waste strategies and aim to help achieve national recycling targets.

The Welsh Assembly Government

The Welsh Assembly Government provides funding via the following grants: -

  • Regional Selective Assistance (RSA)
  • Assembly Investment Grant (AIG)

The level of RSA funding available is dependant upon the area of Wales the operation is based, with different areas of Wales receiving different levels of assistance.

Welsh Development Agency (WDA)

The following grants are among those administered by the WDA, and are available to cover the costs associated with the expansion of or creation of businesses which divert waste from landfill: -

  • Regional Innovation Grant (RIG)
  • Environmental Goods and Services (EGS)

Landfill Tax Credit Scheme (LTCS)

Part of the revenue generated by the landfill tax is currently being channelled into funding environmental projects relating to waste management. The money, managed by ENTRUST, can help fund reuse and recycling schemes. However, as of April 2003 landfill tax funding for this type of project will be transferred into a public funding programme.

European Funding

European funding is available under a number of different grant schemes in Wales, including Objective One Funding available in the majority of North, West and South Wales offering up to 50% assistance, and Objective Two Funding covering Powys and a number of wards in South Wales, where a lower percentage of funding is offered.
