
The Wales Environment Trust is a member of the ReMaDe Network UK. The Remade Network UK connects organisations and programmes working to find uses for waste as a resource and to minimise its impact on the environment by identifying alternatives to landfill.
Aggregate Uses & Specifications
High quality aggregates are primarily used in the construction industry for the manufacture of Asphalt and Concrete Products, Unbound and Hydraulically Bound Materials, Armourstone and Railway Ballast. These are identified in the following British Standards:
BS EN 13043 Aggregates for bituminous mixtures and surface treatments
BS EN 13139 Aggregates for mortar
BS EN 12620 Aggregates for concrete
BS EN 13242 Aggregates for unbound and hydraulically bound materials
BS EN 13383 Armourstone
BS EN 13450 Railway ballast
Aggregates for pipe beddings and general fills are specified in the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, Volume 1 – Specification for Highway Works.
